Commenting on the results of the Continuous Attitude Survey released today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey MP said:
"This survey highlights the consequences of prolonged overstretch on our army.
"Gaps between tours are getting shorter and will have an inevitable impact on family life, morale and ultimately operational effectiveness. Periods of rest, recuperation and training are vital.
"Bullying is clearly still a serious problem; effective welfare services must be a priority as our troops face increasing challenges."

Results include:
Q22b How satisfied are you with the total amount of time that you spend away from home?
65% of soldiers and 47% of officers were not satisfied with the total amount of time spent away from home.
Q41 Have you complained about unfair treatment, discrimination, harassment and bullying?
27% of soldiers and 18% of officers have complained of bullying
Q42a If you have complained about unfair treatment, discrimination, harassment and/or bullying within the last 12 months, how satisfied were you - With the objectivity and fairness with which your complaint was handled?
77% of soldiers and 56% of officers were NOT satisfied with the way their complaint was handled
Q66n 38% of soldiers and 54% of officers said that the effect of operational commitment and overstretch had influenced their intentions to leave the army.
Q66Q 47% of soldiers and 63% of officers said that the impact of army lifestyle on their personal/domestic life had influenced their intentions to leave the army.
