IRREFUTABLE CASE FOR A BAN ON CLUSTER MUNITIONS – HARVEY

Following the launch of a report by Landmine Action on the use of cluster munitions in Southern Lebanon by the Israeli Defence Force, Nick Harvey MP, Liberal Democrat Defence Spokesman, commented:

"There is now an irrefutable case for a comprehensive international ban on the use, production and transfer of cluster munitions

"The principles of international humanitarian law must be respected at all times before, during and after conflict. War crimes must be punished and steps taken to ensure that they can never happen again."

"At the very least the devastation caused in Lebanon underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review of government policy on cluster munitions."
