Following today's publication of the National Consumer Council for Water Review which puts South West Water at the top for numbers of complaints per 10,000 customers Liberal Democrat MPs for Devon and Cornwall have criticised the Government for failing to address the issue of extortionate water charges in the South West.
Dan Rogerson, MP for North Cornwall commented:
"On top of high water charges and rising profits for the company, we now find that South West Water is not meeting the expectations of its customers. We need to hear what they are going to do to set it right."
Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon commented:
" The fact that 18% of the complaints made have been about supply issues shows that not only is the service expensive, but that it is also at times failing to deliver, if we are to pay a premium for our water the least we could expect is a premium service!"
Adrian Sanders MP for Torbay and sponsor of a Parliamentary Ten Minute Rule Bill on this issue added:
"A limit should be established on the percentage of household income spent on water and sewerage charges and to provide for the capping of domestic water and sewerage charges so that the percentage limit is not exceeded. This report shows just how important it is that this issue remains on the agenda and people are not made to live in water poverty."
