Following news that the UN Small Arms Review Conference talks collapsed without agreement last night, Nick Harvey MP, Liberal Democrat Defence Spokesman said:
"This was a grave missed opportunity for the international community to take urgent action to tackle the illicit arms trade.
"The Programme of Action adopted in 2001 was a defining moment in the campaign to control this deadly trade; we have a duty to join countries like Canada in maintaining this momentum and pushing the process forward.
"The Foreign Secretary must now condemn those states who've tried to sabotage this conference and push for progress to be made on this issue at the UN General Assembly in October."
