Nick Harvey MP has met Maureen Thomas, Secretary for the North Devon Branch of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), to discuss widespread concerns about cuts to NHS frontline services.
Ms Thomas travelled to London with a group of South West RCN representatives. She spoke to Mr Harvey about her experience of loss of jobs and the RCN's campaign to put patients first.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Harvey said:
"It was a pleasure to meet Maureen today. We are regularly told that Government is investing more money in the NHS than ever before and yet the RCN has demonstrated today that patients are still missing out on vital frontline services.
"I fully support the RCN's campaign for local care trusts to be given improved access to central government funding streams. It seems to me that there is still far too much top down management of local trusts when all the government rhetoric suggests the contrary.
"I will be pressing the Health minister to listen very carefully to the concerns raised by the RCN who are the true experts on this situation"
