Harvey backs end violence against women campaign

February 7, 2006 8:52 AM

Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon, has welcomed a new campaign to End Violence Against Women which calls for an integrated approach to tackling violence against women.

Mr Harvey has recently signed a Parliamentary Motion highlighting the shocking fact that over half of adult women are reported to have experienced domestic violence in their lifetime and supporting the campaign. He has also added a link to the campaign to his website where he has made a statement of support for the cause.

Commenting on the campaign Mr Harvey said:

"I have received a large amount of postcards from constituents on this matter and am pleased that there are strong feelings in North Devon about the amount of women who suffer this type of human rights abuse.

"It is encouraging that 125 MPs have now signed the parliamentary motion on this subject, but the End Violence Against Women Campaign is calling for 75 more to sign before International Women's Day on March 8th.

If you are a resident of the North Devon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
