I was recently asked by a colleague if I was watching the 'Blair Years' documentary series on the BBC, with so little distance since his departure it seems early days to be making any judgements on his legacy. Also I was minded to point my colleague to the acerbic observations of TV critic AA Gill who remarked recently:
'Oh, who still cares? Picking over the entrails of the least memorable administration since the Second World War can be of interest only to lonely political trainspotters. Blair is apparently worried about his legacy. Well, I can help. It's not up to him, it's up to us now, and when we've decided what, if anything, it's going to be, we'll let you know. Until then, will you please stop bothering us with your relentless self-justification?'
I rest my case…
