BLAIR RUSHING THROUGH SECURITY DECISIONS

Commenting on reports that the UK and US have talked about the possibility of putting an anti-ballistic missile defence system on British soil, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey MP said:

"As with Trident, Tony Blair appears to be in a desperate rush to hurry through vital security decisions behind closed doors. Obsessed with his legacy, the Prime Minister has succumbed to a bunker mentality.

"Any missile defence system that damages the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty would make us less safe, not provide for greater security. It is time that the Government started putting the British national interest before the interests of the arms industry and the United States."
