BOWMAN REPORT TELLS A SORRY STORY

Commenting on today's [Thursday] Public Accounts Committee report into the Bowman CIP Programme, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey MP said:

"This report tells a sorry story of delay, waste and inefficiency.

"It was bad enough that the original Bowman was cancelled. Now the replacement system will not live up to its full potential. Given the serious risk to our troops from friendly fire, it is particularly worrying that the capability to communicate with allies in the field has been delayed.

"Tony Blair is fond of praising our troops but those warm words are not backed up by the actions of his Government. Soldiers should not have to wait so long for such vital equipment that could save lives."
