Following the release of Department for Education and Skills school spending budget for 2007-2008 the Government's announcement that it would match state and private school spending looks rather hollow. Pupils in Devon get almost £340 less per head than the national average. The funding also shows that there is a clear disparity between the rural and urban areas of England.
'I am dismayed to discover that Devon is sixth from the bottom in the league table for pupil funding this year, some 9% below the English average' says Nick Harvey, 'Nationally funding per pupil ranges from £7,089.98 to £3,429.21 this represents a major difference.'
According to DfES the Local Education Authority grant per pupil for Devon is set at £3,551.33, placing it 144th out of 149 LEAs. Devon has been allocated less than half of
