LOCAL MP FIGHTS ILFRACOMBE’S CORNER

July 1, 2008 1:51 PM

Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon, says:

'I have been lobbying the Government in support of North Devon Council's bid for increased funding for 350 home owners in Ilfracombe to the tune of £1.8 million.

'The project is aimed at improving the quality of life and stimulating the local economy, however, the entire North Devon Decent Homes budget is currently a paltry £466,000 which will go nowhere.'

In response to pressure from Nick Harvey, Department for Communities and Local Government Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Iain Wright said:

'We are committed to the delivery of the targets we have announced for affordable housing and it is important that the South West plays its part in the delivery. Allocations for 2008/09 are fixed and now cannot be altered.'

Nick says:

'Despite this there is hope that the budget for Ilfracombe will be improved as a bidding process for specific private sector renewal funding is to be introduced for 2009/2010 - subject to approval by the South West Housing Board.'

If you are a resident of the North Devon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
