REPORTS OF ARMY TRAINING CUTS EXTREMELY DISTURBING

Commenting on recent reports that new army recruits face having their combat training cut by half so that they can be rushed to Afghanistan, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey said:

'Any suggestion that our troops are not getting adequate preparation for conflict is extremely disturbing.

'If troops are spending only half of the recommended time on training then they not only risk endangering themselves, but also others on the front line.

'The Government has failed troops returning from battle, it cannot fail them before they have even been sent.'
