South Molton Community Hospital has temporarily closed eight of its twenty-eight beds, it has been reported that this is due to a skilled staff shortages and funding problems.
'This situation sounds far from ideal, says Nick Harvey MP for North Devon. 'It greatly reduces the options for GPs and puts unwelcome pressure on Barnstaple hospital and the care homes.'
'Local GPs state that there has been no discussion with them or an assessment of the impact on their hospital referrals with the North Devon Healthcare Trust.
'Ultimately this means that South Molton Community Hospital has lost the flexibility to keep patients flowing through its system.'
'I will of course be taking this up with the Chief Executive of North Devon Healthcare Trust as a matter of some urgency.'
