Commenting on today's [Thursday] NAO report on major projects at the Ministry of Defence, which finds that they are now going to be 58 months later and £205m more expensive than previously expected, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey said: "This is further evidence of the culture of incompetence at the MoD.
"Miscalculations and hopelessly unrealistic expectations have taken a massive toll on Britain's already overstretched defence budget.
"It is hard to believe that the total increase in the length of delay on major projects - 58 months - now exceeds the length of the First World War.
"A new Strategic Defence Review is desperately needed to re-establish the balance between preparing for the wars of today and the threats of tomorrow within the available resources."
