An appeal has been launched to raise £120,000 to save the tower of Holy Trinity Church in Barnstaple.
At the campaign launch Nick commented, 'This church is an icon in the town and can be seen from everywhere.
'I have a profound interest that the work is done as I have always admired the church's role in the community.
'It is a lot of money involved and you will need a bit of faith along the way but I wish you every success - good luck and God speed.'
(These comments were first published in North Devon Journal, 2 April 2009)
To date £160,000 has been committed to renovating the interior of the church.
Anyone wishing to support the Take on the Tower appeal should contact Rev Simon May at Holy Trinity Church, or Rachel Keenan, secretary of the church's building committee, on 01271 346786.
