SHOCKING STATE OF ACCOMODATION IS DERELICTION OF DUTY TO SERVICE FAMILIES

March 19, 2009 12:00 AM

Commenting on today's National Audit Office report into accommodation for service families, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey said:

"This reinforces what we already knew about the shocking state of far too much service accommodation.

"The MOD's efforts to upgrade accommodation are happening far too slowly and are failing to meet the needs of service personnel and their families.

"It is astounding that millions are being wasted on over 9,000 empty properties that could be put to a much more productive use.

"The MOD must heed the recommendations of this report and act urgently to address this problem.

"It is a dereliction of the duty of care owed to our service personnel and their families that they should have to face a battle over good standard accommodation on the home front."

If you are a resident of the North Devon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
