TYPE 45 DETROYER OVERSPEND IS AN OUTRAGE

Commenting on today's NAO report on the Type 45 Destroyer, which is two years late and is £1.5bn over budget, Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey said:

"Even by MoD standards this is a colossal budget overspend and will be met with genuine outrage.

"£1.5bn could buy vitally needed resources on the frontline.

"It beggars belief that the MoD can blow so much on poor project management while our troops are risking their lives because of a lack of armoured vehicles and helicopters.

"The troops and the taxpayers deserve far better than this. We cannot go on with this catalogue of procurement disasters."
