REVIEW IS DAMNING INDICTMENT OF MOD LEADERSHIP

MoD Main BuildingCommenting on the civil service 'capability review' of the MoD released today, which finds that only 20% of MoD staff feel the department is well managed, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey said:

"This report is a damning indictment of the lack of leadership at the MoD. It is incredible that only 1 in 5 of MoD staff feel the department is well managed.

"It is deeply disturbing that the department responsible for the critical mission in Afghanistan finds itself in such a state.

"The civil servants should not take all the blame. Gordon Brown's refusal to commission an urgent strategic security and defence review means that the department cannot plan effectively for the long term."
