SCRAPPING OF LOCAL MIU CAUSE FOR CONCERN

NurseNick says, 'News that Devon Primary Care Trust has pulled funding for the minor injuries units at Torrington's Health Centre and Castle Gardens Surgery is extremely unwelcome.

'Only three years ago the MIUs at South Molton and Torrington hospitals were closed in a desperate bid to save money by the former North Devon PCT. In the case of Torrington the health centre and surgery willingly stepped into the breach.

'Now patients in the Torrington area will have to go to Bideford community hospital, but its MIU closes at 8-30pm which then means coming to Barnstaple Hospital. None of this seems to make sense.

'I am currently tackling Dr Kevin Snee, the PCT's Chief Executive, as to why these units have fallen victim to another round of cost cutting exercises.'
