Council House Street Property in LambethNick joins colleagues to criticise the poor quality of rented accommodation in the private sector. Following the Rugg Review it is recognised that this is not only a problem in cities but also seaside towns, where prices are high and incomes low.

The Government has been encouraged to extend it decent homes policy from the social housing sector to the private sector - by forcing landlords' hands through refusing housing benefit and local housing allowance for substandard properties.
