'I have joined colleagues to express concern over the affects of zero-grazed livestock. This process confines animals to sheds for all or most of the year.
'I am deeply concerned that this is unduly restrictive and oppressive, limited investigations indicate a higher incidence of health problems for such animals. We are calling on the Government to commission and make publicly available independent research that assesses the scale of zero-grazing of dairy cattle, goats and sheep in the UK, as well as the physical and behavioural problems associated with this method of livestock farming. This type of intensive farming is not to be condoned.
