Having lobbied the Ministry of Defence to approve a design for a homecoming pin, to be worn by families to mark the return of the Royal Marines to Chivenor from Afghanistan, Nick Harvey has gained approval for the scheme to be rolled out nationally.
Kevan Jones, Minister for Veterans said 'There are no current plans for the MOD to produce an official pin for the families of service personnel. However, if the organisers or families who provided the pin for the march through Barnstaple wish to pursue this further and provide the pin on a national basis, they have the permission of the department to use the design.'
'This is excellent news,' says Nick, 'the intention behind the scheme was simply as a morale booster for the families, but just as importantly it helped raise funds for 'Help for Heroes' - which no one can deny is a vital cause.'
