Today the Learning Skills Council announced the 13 college projects that it will consider funding, the list does not include North Devon College.
Christopher Banks, Chairman of the LSC says, 'I recognise that this may be very disappointing for you, your local college governors, their staff and learners and I am sorry that, despite record levels of investment in Further Education provision, the funds could not fund the full list of schemes that were submitted to us.'
The LSC has also offered assurances that no colleges will be allowed to become insolvent as a result of substantial costs already incurred as a result of the project development process.
In the response to the LSC's announcement Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon says:
'This news is bitterly disappointing, while it is certainly not the end of the road for the college's redevelopment it has certainly knocked it back a number of years.
'Due to the scale and scope of the proposed new college we had all hoped that the LSC would see fit to run with it, but it has proved not to be.
'This is a flagship project for Barnstaple and its delay is a very unwelcome setback for North Devon.'
