BICCLESCOMBE PARK FLYS THE FLAG FOR NORTH DEVON

July 23, 2009 3:41 PM

Picturesque Bicclescombe ParkNick says, 'I have just been officially notified by Ian Austin, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Communities and Local Government, of Bicclescombe Park's Green Flag award.

'The 2009 Green Flag & Green Pennant Awards ceremony took place in Bournemouth on 22 and 23 July. This is a feather in the cap for Ilfracombe, especially when you consider that there were only 59 winners across the whole of the South West and just 13 for Devon.

'The park has consistently won this accolade since 2004 with it judged on being welcoming, safety, cleanliness and maintenance, conservation and community involvement. I would like to congratulate the local authority and community on all its hard work.'

The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. The award scheme began in 1996 as a means of recognising and rewarding the best green spaces in the country. It was also seen as a way of encouraging others to achieve the same high environmental standards, creating a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.

If you are a resident of the North Devon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
