It was deep regret I heard the news that 20 year old Guardsman Christopher King from West Buckland (1st Battalion Coldstream Guards) was killed in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on 22 July 2009. My thoughts and condolences go out to Christopher's family and friends at this traumatic time.
I understand that books of condolence have been opened at St Peter's Church, West Buckland and at Swimbridge church.
My greatest hope is that the sacrifice of Guardsman King and his colleagues in Helmand will create a lasting legacy in Afghanistan.
