DEFENCE CUTS UNBELIEVABLY SHORT SIGHTED

Nick harvey MP"It seems Bob Ainsworth has finally realised that our defence spending plans bear little relationship to our current priorities," Nick Harvey MP for North Devon and Liberal Democrat defence spokesman told the Western Morning News today.

Labour and Tory politicians who signalled there could be cuts in defence budgets have been branded "unbelievably short sighted" with a "disregard for defence and national security."

On Tuesday Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth said "major shifts" in spending could not be ruled out as part of focusing efforts and resources on the Afghan conflict.

The UK National Defence Association warned reductions in military budgets could be "potentially catastrophic."
