Nick says: "Constituents have been voicing concern over certain aspects of the Government's recent Social Care Green Paper; In particular whether Disability Living Allowance is included in the scope of the consultation document.
"The worry is that DLA will be administered by the local social care provider, leaving the recipient worse off and unable to determine how the allowance is spent."
When Nick raised these concerns with the Department of Health, Phil Hope, Minister of State for Care Services stated:
"We know that there are problems with the overall support available to older and disabled people through the current social care and disability benefits system. These two systems have tended to be developed in isolation from each other, with the result that they are fragmented and can be complex to understand, access and navigate.
"We think there is a case for bringing some disability benefits and the adult social care system together into a single system. However, this is a consultation exercise and no final decisions have been made - either about which disability benefits might be involved, or how they would be affected."
Nick adds: "if this potentially affects you I would urge that you make your voice heard with the consultation process."
The Green Paper, Shaping the Future of Care Together was published on 14 July and the consultation runs until 13 November.
