PUBLIC DEBATE: SECRET MILLIONAIRE

September 29, 2009 11:57 AM

Channel 4"Dear Mr Harvey, I was glad you were furious about the 'Secret Millionaire' as were we. We used to live in Rotherham and know what a poverty stricken area is and Barnstaple certainly isn't! At least Barnstaple has some employment and lovely people as do we here. We run a business in Ilfracombe which was more shown than Barnstaple but not mentioned!

"The Amber project looked quite good as youngsters do have a hard time here as lack of prospects and motivation, and of course The Hospice always needs funds for a very good cause.

"It is a shame it didn't centre on some of the homeless ex-service people. We have had and got some lovely men who sell the big issue who live in tents as can't cope with life after the forces. Ilfracombe's present seller has lots of supporters here. Perhaps a programme on the devastation of the families at Chivonor who have lost their husbands would be a more fitting

"Regards

Jill Cockram" (Ilfracombe)

"Dear Mr Harvey

"I would like to let you know I agree with your article in the Western Morning News. I was so angry with the way channel 4 portrayed Barnstaple, highlighting irrelevant items such as including shots of Ilfracombe (Wynstay Hostel) and the Amber Foundation which is based in Chawleigh, the public presume everything in the programme was shot in Barnstaple.

"Every town in the country has problems with drugs and alcohol so it should have been pointed out in the programme that although we live in a beautiful part of the world there can still be problems but we are lucky to be in an area which is blessed with a lot of organisations trying to do great things and we do not to feel intimidated every time you go out as Kevin Green inferred in the programme. I have sent an email to channel 4's executive.

"Mrs Carol Blom" (Bideford)

If you are a resident of the North Devon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
