"While Braunton Burrows is nationally recognised," says Nick "it is doubly pleasing that the Ministry of Defence has bestowed a Sanctuary Award for Individual Achievement to a North Devon couple for their conservation work on the Burrows."
Kevan Jones MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Defence recently informed Nick: "Mr and Mrs Breeds are recognised for an outstanding 30 years of involvement with conservation and public access on the Defence Training Estate at Braunton Burrows, part of only once of eight UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in the UK.
"I am extremely impressed by the outstanding contribution the couple has made to this unique and important part of the defence estate. Their enthusiasm and dedication to conservation on the site over the past 30 years is remarkable and I am pleased to be thanking them, on behalf of the MOD and all those who have benefited from their energy and enthusiasm."
Nick adds, "In my role as Liberal Democrat Defence Spokesman I would also like to thank John and Mary Breeds for their outstanding contribution to the management of the Defence Training Estates on Braunton Burrows. The combination of training and conservation needs on the Burrows has been a great success over the years."
The MOD Sanctuary Awards took place on 13 October at Trinity House London.
