Chris Huhne, the Lib Dem's Home Affairs spokesman, will be in Barnstaple on 31 October as the keynote speaker for the local association's annual dinner.
Nick Harvey MP for North Devon says, "It is a pleasure to welcome someone of Chris's calibre to North Devon and we are grateful that he has been able to take out time from a very busy national schedule to be with us.
"Last year we hosted Vince Cable who sparked some lively debate on the state of the economy. This year home affairs will be under the spotlight."
"I always look forward to returning to North Devon," says Chris Huhne, "as I know I will be assured a warm welcome. I will also be looking forward to tackling some of the topical issues of the day."
On election to Westminster in 2005, Charles Kennedy asked Chris Huhne to become the shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, dealing with tax and public spending as a Treasury spokesman for the party.
Chris ran for the leadership of the Liberal Democrats in early 2006, highlighting the need for green taxes to change our behaviour and tackle climate change, and was the runner-up to Sir Menzies Campbell, who then appointed him Shadow Environment Food and Rural Affairs Secretary.
He ran for the leadership again in Autumn 2007 following the resignation of Sir Menzies, coming second to Nick Clegg in December 2007. He was then appointed Shadow Secretary of State for the Home Department.
