Nick says, "I am disgusted that Ministry of Defence saving measures have slashed £20 million from the Territorial Army's training budget. This is on top of a £23 million cut earlier this year. The University Officer Training Corps is also to lose £3 million and the School Cadet forces £4 million.
"These cuts are part of a £97 million saving package, which includes a recruitment halt to claw back £2 million and the delay of a £14 million upgrade for single soldiers' accommodation.
"For the TA this effectively means they will not get paid for the next six months if they have not already attended their summer exercises.
"While I appreciate resources have to be prioritised for operational requirements these savings can only have a very damaging affect on overall morale and retention.
"This will clearly have a negative affect on Barnstaple's TA unit.
"This is systematic of the Government's approach to defence overspending and I am currently raising this poor state of affairs with the Minister for Armed Forces Bill Rammell."
