The Ministry of Defence has staged a partial climb-down over planned cuts to the Territorial Army, which had seen all routine training suspended for the rest of the financial year.
Liberal Democrat Defence spokesman and North Devon MP, Nick Harvey, who lead criticism of the Government's actions said, "The damage caused by the cuts was out of all proportion to the savings achieved."
Armed Forces Minister Bill Rammell told the House of Commons the Government was making a "small adjustment" of £2.5 million to enable all TA soldiers to attend one drill night a month.
In response Nick Harvey commented, "This is nonsense the MoD should reinstate the full £20 million slashed from the TA's budget, otherwise the impact on morale will be catastrophic. This is actually the short of thing that will harm retention at a time when the TA are filling frontline slots more than ever."
