In light of the ongoing freezing weather conditions yesterday Nick tabled two Parliamentary Questions to clarify the local authority's statutory duty in safeguarding rural roads.
He has asked Lord Adonis, Secretary of State for Transport:
• What his Department recommends as the maximum amount of grit allowed to be laid on roads during icy weather conditions.
• What advice is given to local authorities regarding particularly exposed areas of road, especially when such roads have been gritted yet re-freeze.
Nick notes, "I look forward to Secretary of State's reply as I want to be reassured, as do the public that Devon County Council is doing everything it can to combat these adverse conditions."
