PUBLIC DEBATE: DCC ABANDONS OUTLYING COMMUNITIES?

'Dear Mr Harvey, No doubt your office has received many such emails as this, but I am becoming increasingly of the opinion that Devon County Council is derelict in its duty to make roads safe in icy weather.

'I live in Landkey, on the steep hill leading out of the village towards Jon Beer Autos (Bableigh Hill). Although the main road through Landkey (old A361) is usable as it has been treated, I am still unable to leave my property here due to ice. I have been unable to use the car since Tuesday morning. The road is almost impossible to walk upon let alone drive.

'With no thaw in sight, we might be in the same situation next week. I was disgusted to find on ringing DCC's telephone number that they are not even accepting calls on this subject unless life is at risk - their message simply directs you to the DCC website. How helpful would that be for an old person with no internet access, or milk, or bread....?
