"Dear Mr Harvey, we live on a steep hill overlooking Lynton. Following the icy weather recently we have been confined to the house as none of the roads have been gritted, nor bags of salt provided as has happened in previous years when there has been a spell of bad weather.
"I telephoned Devon County Council to get rock salt delivered again. I was absolutely disgusted and very upset with the attitude of the man on the switchboard who took the call. When I told him we had no road salt and couldn't get out to get shopping he said 'you and 200 others.'
"I asked to talk to someone in Highways but he said they were too busy, I asked for someone to ring back and he said 'probably won't be today' - in fact I'm not sure he even took our telephone number for them to ring back.
"He also said that we would have to pay a lot more in council tax to get residential roads gritted and that only main roads were being done. With the situation unresolved he said he would have to hang up on me because he had a queue of calls waiting. I only hope they had better service than me. I hope this was one of the calls that were recorded in order that Devon County Council can improve their customer service."
