Exeter County Hall"Now that it seems that Exeter is to become independent as a unitary authority, we wait to see if 'Rural Devon' is to be similarly designated or whether we simply bear the impact of dilution in the rest of the county.

"This raises many concerns, not the least of these will be the location of the administrative centre in the event of a Rural Devon Unitary Authority. Without contrary opinion being voiced, County services will inevitably continue to be directed from the excluded city of Exeter. The not inconsiderable economic impact of these facilities should result in a benefit to the county and not the city in my view.

"It would seem entirely appropriate to me that County Hall, together with all the administrative supporting services should be relocated to Barnstaple where otherwise displaced council workers may continue in employment.

"I hope that you will feel able to support this idea and give it the weight of your office for the benefit of both the county and North Devon District.
