Tomorrow morning North Devon MP, Nick Harvey, and Facebook campaign organisers Bob and Judith Thompson, will be making the region's voice heard regarding Government Search and Rescue plans when they lobby Downing Street in person.
"It is very encouraging," says Nick Harvey "how the whole of North Devon has rallied behind this cause - we have to signal to the Government that future S&R provision has to be right from the very word go. Ultimately people's lives are at stake."
The total number of signatures objecting to the Government's planned reductions to North Devon's vital Search and Rescue service are now well over 14,000.
The largest number of signatures, some 11,000 are on the Facebook campaign organised by Bob and Judith Thompson, with another 1000 collected via Nick Harvey MP's website, and a further 1000 signatures collected by Nick and his team at Roundswell's Sainsbury's and in Barnstaple's Pannier Market.
Nick is also teaming up with North Devon Journal to present the Journal's '24 not 12 for Chivenor Campaign' results in London which includes another 1,400 signatures.
In addition petitions were placed in shops in Lynton and Lynmouth, Combe Martin, Mortehoe and Woolacombe and in Barnstaple. Braunton Parish Council has been circulating a similar petition in their area which is designed to feed in to the existing petitions.
