CONTINUED OPPOSITION TO ABOLITION OF FURNISHED HOLIDAY LETTING RULES

March 1, 2010 2:44 PM

Nick Harvey MPNick has become a signatory to Early Day Motion 818 lobbying against ending tax relief under the holiday letting rules.

This states: 'That this House notes that the repeal of furnished holiday lettings rules announced in the Budget will have negative and unintended consequences for providers of holiday lettings; believes that the repeal will unfairly affect owners letting properties as their sole source of income or main business; further believes that the repeal will negatively affect the British tourism industry and rural and seaside areas; and calls on the Treasury to review the decision to repeal the furnished holiday lettings rules and consult on a tiered approach.'

Nick adds, "I have been calling on the Treasury to fully assess the impact this move will have on our tourist industry and clarify whether or not this tax concession is illegal under EU law."

If you are a resident of the North Devon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
