Nick Harvey MP is encouraging members of the public to report North Devon's potholes caused by the bad weather online at www.devon.gov.uk/pothole or by phoning 0845 155 1004.
Chris McCarthy, Executive Director of Environment, Economy and Culture, Devon County Council, recently told Nick: "The recent spell of severe weather has caused a significant increase in potholes on the County's roads being reported by the County's Highways officers and members of the public. As a result the council has deployed 26 inspect and repair gangs working full-time across the County to repair defects on the roads."
Nick says "This is good news though I am concerned by the rate of repairs. DCC need to get on top of this problem quickly, the extreme weather has taken its toll and the degradation will only get worse once the tourist season starts."
Acknowledging problems on North Devon's roads Chris McCarthy added: "We are warning drivers to take extra care to avoid potholes on all roads and particularly those they use regularly, until the unprecedented numbers of potholes we are experiencing are repaired."
