Nick says, "I was delighted to be informed that Exmoor National Park has been selected to participate in the Low Carbon Community Challenge. This is a prestigious Government research programme looking at the way ahead for cutting carbon emissions."
Joan Ruddock, Minister of State, Department of Energy & Climate Change recently told Nick: "The LCC is a programme that will help Government understand the potential role of communities in the transition to a low carbon future, and the systems, infrastructure and governance required to make this future a reality.
"The project will install renewable technologies such as wood pellet boilers and solar installations in six communities across the park, helping local residents both reduce their carbon emissions and their fuel bills. The community is also looking to secure additional funding for a community owned hydro-turbine installation in Lynton."
Nick comments, "This is really good news, Exmoor is just one of 22 test bed communities across the UK taking part in this two year research programme, that is designed to look at ways local communities can reduce their carbon emissions."
