Following the news that North Devon's Tourist Information Centres are to have their budget halved, Nick is to get together with Manager Tom Evans to see what can be done to safeguard the service.
The Tourist Information Centres in Barnstaple, Braunton, Combe Martin, Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Lynton and South Molton are to have their £88k budget halved in April.
This is as a result of North Devon Council funding cuts to regeneration organisation North Devon +. The latter argues that in light of the shortfall it would rather concentrate on getting visitors here in the first place.
Nick Harvey comments, "This is all well and good but it is no good if there are no sources of information or a friendly face for visitors when they get here.
"Certainly not everyone has access to the internet while on holiday, so online services are not an answer in themselves.
"I feel it will be very useful to meet with TIC staff ahead of their meeting with North Devon + later this month in an effort to avoid unwanted closures."
