"Dear Mr Harvey, The National Housing Federation was delighted to see that all of the Big Six energy suppliers have decided to equalise prepay meter tariffs with those for quarterly billed customers. This move has saved their least well-off customers over £150 million.
"I would like to add my personal thanks to you for calling for an end to this injustice for a number of years. As you will be aware, we have campaigned to remove the prepay premium because a higher than average number of housing association tenants use prepay meters.
"We were disappointed that we were unable to amend the Government's Energy Bill to make it unlawful to charge more for prepay meters. Despite warm words from the Department of Energy and Climate on this issue, it choose to support Ofgem's view that energy suppliers have the right to charge more for prepay meters, if they so choose.
"Luckily for the six million prepay meter customers, energy suppliers have gone beyond the limited expectations of their regulator and they should be commended for doing so.
"Yours sincerely
Henry Gregg"
