PERSONAL THANKS FROM THE NATIONAL HOUSING FEDERATION

March 25, 2010 3:25 PM

Housing"Dear Mr Harvey, The National Housing Federation was delighted to see that all of the Big Six energy suppliers have decided to equalise prepay meter tariffs with those for quarterly billed customers. This move has saved their least well-off customers over £150 million.

"I would like to add my personal thanks to you for calling for an end to this injustice for a number of years. As you will be aware, we have campaigned to remove the prepay premium because a higher than average number of housing association tenants use prepay meters.

"We were disappointed that we were unable to amend the Government's Energy Bill to make it unlawful to charge more for prepay meters. Despite warm words from the Department of Energy and Climate on this issue, it choose to support Ofgem's view that energy suppliers have the right to charge more for prepay meters, if they so choose.

"Luckily for the six million prepay meter customers, energy suppliers have gone beyond the limited expectations of their regulator and they should be commended for doing so.

"Yours sincerely

Henry Gregg"

Public Affairs Manager

If you are a resident of the North Devon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
