North Devon's veteran front bencher, Nick Harvey was appointed yesterday Minister for the Armed Forces. Commenting Nick said, "This is a great privilege and I hope to be able to capitalise on my experiences as Lib Dem Defence Spokesmen. This is a difficult and challenging time for the Ministry of Defence and it's vital that we meet the needs of our service personnel. The Government's first step is to conduct a far reaching strategic defence and security review."
Nick joins Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox and defence minister Gerald Howarth. The announcement that six Lib Dems would become ministers came after the coalition cabinet held its first meeting yesterday. Nick has worked as the Liberal democrats Shadow Defence Secretary since 2006
