CSA FAILS NORTH DEVON'S PARENTS

July 20, 2010 11:29 AM

Nick HarveyCommenting on figures issued by single parent charity Gingerbread showing that there is £5.7m in unpaid child support maintenance owed to North Devon parents, Nick Harvey MP, said "This sum beggars belief, especially for a rural area such as ours - this is a terrible child welfare failure.

"It clearly shows that the previous administration's efforts to revamp the Child Support Agency have not delivered.

"The CSA has long been viewed as unfit for purpose after major administrative problems emerged a number of years ago. A staple of my postbag remains parents with seemingly unending CSA payment difficulties.

"Labour instigated the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission which was given responsibility for the child maintenance system and its key task was to get more money to families.

"I agree with Gingerbread that achievable and enforceable debt recovery targets should be set. Such massive backlogs should not be tolerated."

If you are a resident of the North Devon constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
