Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon has taken up the Ilfracombe High Street Traders concerns with Devon County Council. He says 'Following a meeting with the High Street Traders it was quite clear that they have very real concerns about their future viability. In addition, the period of consultation is restricted to their busiest time of the year which inhibits their ability to effectively structure their opposition to the scheme.'
The Traders are implacably opposed to the scheme arguing that the scheme's restrictions impact badly on the elderly and disabled in the community at a time when other towns are getting rid of meters. The Traders have additional concerns about the usage of the Town Car Parks, which are largely under used and concerns about the introduction of Residents Parking Permit schemes which could further adversely affect trade in the town.
Nick Harvey went on to say 'I have taken up the High Street Traders issues with Devon County Council and in particular the issue of the August 25th deadline for the consultation period'.
