News that flood prevention works in Barnstaple have been given the go-ahead has been welcomed by North Devon MP, Nick Harvey.
It's hoped that work on the £1.2million project at Rolle Quay in Barnstaple will start this year and will reduce the risk of flooding for 269 houses in the surrounding area.
The Government has invested £2.17 billion on managing the risk of flooding and coastal erosion up to March 2015, and has prioritised areas in severe flood or coastal erosion risk. It is thought that a scheme for Braunton will be brought forward for development in future years when further funding is secured.
Nick Harvey MP welcomed the announcement: "This is excellent news for Barnstaple, and will no doubt be of comfort to residents around Rolle Quay who are at risk of flooding."
"I am pleased that the government are investing so heavily in flood prevention, and confident that North Devon will continue to benefit from this money in years to come. I am hopeful that funding arrangements for Braunton can be confirmed as soon as possible so that work can start on the project there too."
