The Climate Change Bill, which took a very long time coming, was keenly debated in and outside Parliament.
I am pleased to say that as a result of a lot of hard campaigning by the Liberal Democrats, campaigning organisations such as Friends of the Earth and members of the public, we were able to strengthen the Climate Change Bill in a number of important respects.
Desertification as a result of Climate Change
Most importantly of all, I want to see the whole of Government taking climate change seriously.
My view is that there needs to be 'green backbone' running through all government policy if we are to achieve these vital goals on tackling climate change.
The Climate Change Bill finished its passage through parliament on 18th November 2008, and was enacted by Royal Assent on 26th November 2008.
